Abraham Maslow
Drew the ladder of human needs.
A founder of humanistic psychology, known for the hierarchy of needs and the idea of self-actualization.
What a man can be, he must be. This need we call self-actualization.
Who they were
Abraham Maslow asked a then-radical question: not what makes people sick, but what makes them thrive. He arranged human motivation as a hierarchy — from safety and belonging up to esteem and, at the peak, self-actualization. He studied the healthiest people he could find and described their peak experiences of awe, wholeness and joy.
