El juego del garabato

Winnicott's improvised game for meeting a child: one person draws a spontaneous squiggle, the other turns it into something, and then they swap. Over a few rounds the drawings become a shared, unforced conversation about what's really going on inside.

Por qué funciona

Play sits in the space between two people — neither wholly inner nor wholly outer — and that is exactly where a real self can show itself. By working through images rather than direct questions, the game lowers defences and lets feelings that resist words find a form.

Cómo se hace

Practicarla, paso a paso

Unos pocos movimientos que sostienen el método — en consulta, o en pequeño, por tu cuenta.

  1. 1
Make a squiggle Draw a quick, meaningless line with your eyes half-closed, and hand it over.
  2. 2
Turn it into something The other person completes your squiggle into whatever it suggests to them — no right answer.
  3. 3
Swap and repeat Now they make a squiggle for you. Keep alternating for several rounds.
  4. 4
Let it speak Notice what keeps appearing in the drawings, and talk about it lightly — follow the images, don't interrogate them.
Pruébalo tú mismo

With a child (or a guarded friend), swap three squiggles each and see what the pictures start to say.
